noindex
noindex is an instruction that tells a search engine not to store a page. It can be set with a meta tag or, more powerfully, an HTTP header.
The header version, X-Robots-Tag, is sent before the page body and overrides the meta tag. Most tools show the tag but not the header, so header-level noindex often goes unnoticed.
When traffic to one page type disappears on a single day, an accidental noindex on that template is the first thing to check.
